Service Types and Fees

The Denver Sexual Health Clinic is a reduced fee clinic. Some of the services provided are assessed a fee. Services are not dependent on the ability to pay. Clinic staff will inform patients of any fees due during the check-in process. Acceptable payment methods are cash, Visa, or MasterCard.

We accept most types of insurance, and as of February 1, 2023 we do collect co-pays. We do not mail bills to your home. You may get an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your insurance company after your visit.

Patients age 18 and under can be seen without fees.

  • Routine testing (persons without any symptoms):
    • For persons without insurance and over age 19, cost of testing will be $20-$90 based on a sliding scale.
  • STD concerns and symptoms, treatment, family planning:
    • For persons without insurance and over age 19, fees for services are based on a sliding scale fee schedule and may range from $0-$90.

Our clinic does offer appointments for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), women seeking birth control options and routine testing. Persons wanting routine testing must schedule an appointment. Please call 303-602-3540 for these appointments.

Planning Your Visit

  1. Check-in: Get a number and paperwork from the front desk and hang onto them. We use numbers in our clinic to keep clients names confidential while in the waiting area. Have your photo ID ready. Check-in staff will see you first to determine what tests you need and assess the cost of your visit. We may need to draw blood and collect a urine sample from you.
  2. Provider Visit: Your provider will ask questions to get a better idea of what additional tests you might need. The more we understand about you, the better we can help you. This visit may also include a physical exam. You may spend 30-60 minutes with the provider. If you are experiencing intimate partner violence, please talk to one of our medical providers during your visit. They can provide you with counseling and additional community resources for assistance.
  3. Results and Treatment: We often make a diagnosis during your exam, and you may receive medication right away. If test results are not ready at the time of your visit, you will need to call the result line at 303-602-3540 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or check MyChart.denverhealth.org for your results. If you don’t have a MyChart account, your nurse will give you login instructions. If you have a positive test result and did not receive medication at your visit, you will need to return to the clinic for treatment at no additional cost.

Testing and Vaccines

The Denver Sexual Health Clinic provides evaluation and testing for many sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Your clinician will determine the appropriate tests for you. Most, but not all STDs are treated in the clinic. If needed, clinic staff can connect individuals to other sources of care.

Free at-Home HIV and STD Testing

We are currently offering free and low-cost at-home HIV and STD testing. The test kit allows you to test for HIV, chlamydia and gonorrhea. The HIV test is completed by using OraQuick®, which allows you to check your HIV status quickly at home. The gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are sent via mail to be processed in the lab.

Outreach STD Testing

Our Outreach team offers free and confidential HIV, Hep C and STD testing at various locations throughout Denver. All visits are sex- positive, affirming and tailored to your needs.

  • Tests Offered in Outreach
    We offer HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hepatitis C testing at our Outreach locations. We test for HIV, syphilis and Hep C through a blood draw or finger stick. Gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are completed through a urine collection, and/or throat swab, and/or self-collected rectal swab depending on the type of sex you have. HIV and Hep C results will be provided at the time of your visit. Syphilis results take up to 5-10 days; gonorrhea and chlamydia results take 2-3 business days. You will be able to get your results through a secure, online portal.
  • Planning Your Visit to Outreach
    We do not take appointments - all our visits are pre-scheduled, please call us to schedule a visit at 720-415-7075. No insurance is needed and all testing is free. We do require a picture ID for registration. The Outreach tester will take a brief sexual health history, talk about testing options, and work with you to decide on what tests are best for you. The Outreach team can discuss pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) (a pill that can be taken once a day to prevent HIV) and connect you to care if you are interested.

    In Outreach we do not provide medical evaluation or treatment. If you are experiencing symptoms or know that you were exposed to an STD, please contact the Denver Sexual Health Clinic at (303) 602-3540. If you know or think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, please call the Linkage to Care team for information about post exposure prophylaxis (PEP). STD Treatment

If you are diagnosed with an STD at our clinic, sometimes you will get treatment during your visit. If you find out later that one of your results was positive and you need treatment, you can come back to our clinic for medications. You can also visit your primary care provider for STD treatment.

What if my HIV test is positive?

If you have a positive HIV test in our clinic, we have a Linkage to Care team that will work with you to make sure you get set up with a doctor that will provide you with the best care for you. Our team will also make sure to answer any questions you have.
